Shopify SEO agency that fixes the platform-specific problems

Shopify is strong at selling and has known SEO quirks. We fix duplicate product URLs, thin collection pages, variant clutter and slow themes, then report organic revenue from GA4.

Shopify SEO means fixing the issues Shopify creates by default and building collection pages around buyer searches. Common problems are products reachable at several collection URLs, variant parameters, fixed URL prefixes, app-injected scripts and thin collection descriptions. AdCrowd applies the product-led method behind our Jenpharm results to Shopify stores. Our published case work is platform-independent: the method applies to any store.

What are the most common Shopify SEO problems?

Shopify handles the basics well: it generates a sitemap, serves HTTPS and produces clean templates. The recurring problems come from how themes, apps and catalogue structure interact. This table covers the ones we check first.

IssueWhat happensTypical fix
Products at several URLsA product can load at /products/name and at /collections/x/products/name. Shopify canonicals point to the /products/ version by default, but themes and links often send people and crawlers to the longer one.Make internal links use the canonical product URL; confirm canonical tags in the theme.
Variant parametersVariants add ?variant= URLs that can be crawled and shared.Keep canonicals clean; avoid linking to parameter URLs.
Thin collection pagesCollections have a title and a product grid with little text.Add intent-matched copy, buying guidance and links to subcategories.
Fixed URL prefixesShopify keeps /products/, /collections/, /pages/ and /blogs/ in URLs.Work within them: clear handles, no keyword stuffing, careful redirects when changing handles.
App and theme bloatApps inject scripts that slow mobile pages.Audit installed apps and remove or replace heavy ones.
Tag and filter pagesTag and filter combinations create low-value URLs.Control indexing with noindex or robots rules where appropriate.

How do you optimize Shopify collection pages?

Collections are Shopify's category pages and usually carry the broadest commercial searches. Our work follows the pattern that lifted Jenpharm's category and product pages: map each collection to a real search, write copy in the words buyers use, and frame benefits around problems.

  • One H1 and a short intro that answers what the collection is for.
  • Buying guidance placed below the product grid so products stay above the fold.
  • Links to subcollections and to guides that support the collection.
  • Unique titles and meta descriptions per collection, not store-wide templates.
  • Product schema on products and Breadcrumb schema on collections.

How do you optimize Shopify product pages?

Product pages need distinct copy, visible price and availability, and structured data matching what the page shows. We rewrite manufacturer descriptions, check that the theme outputs Product and Offer schema with the correct currency, add review markup only when real reviews are displayed, and make sure images carry descriptive file names and alt text. Jenpharm's priority queries included product names, "price in pakistan" variations and ingredient-led terms, and each one needed a different page treatment.

How does Shopify page speed affect SEO?

Slow mobile pages lose visitors before they buy, and Google measures real-user performance through Core Web Vitals. On Shopify the usual causes are heavy themes, oversized images and apps loading scripts on every page. In ChenOne's redesign, speed was a stated goal: faster loading on mobile, a streamlined checkout and clearer pricing. We bring the same data-first approach, using PageSpeed Insights and Hotjar recordings to find the template and the element causing the delay.

Can you set up Shopify for the US, UK and Pakistan?

Shopify Markets can serve different countries from one store with local currencies and domains or subfolders. The SEO risk is duplicated content across markets without correct hreflang. We plan the structure first. See our international SEO page for hreflang and market structure guidance for US and UK e-commerce.

What evidence do you have for e-commerce SEO?

Our measured e-commerce work is Jenpharm, a Pakistani skincare brand. The same product-led method applies on any platform, including Shopify.

What about moving to Shopify from another platform?

A platform move changes URLs, templates and sometimes content, and it is the moment stores lose the most organic traffic. Before migration we crawl the old site, list every URL that earns clicks or links, and build a one-to-one redirect map to the new URLs. We keep titles, headings and copy that already rank, rebuild internal links, and check indexation and rankings for weeks after launch. Shopify cannot keep every old URL pattern because of its fixed prefixes, so redirects matter more than usual.

What do you not do on Shopify?

  • We do not promise rankings or revenue.
  • We do not stuff keywords into product handles or titles.
  • We do not recommend changing product handles without a redirect plan.
  • We will say if a problem sits in a theme or app your developer must change.

How much does Shopify SEO cost?

Cost depends on catalogue size, number of collections, theme condition and whether we implement changes directly.

How do we get started?

Intro call, discovery call and proposal. We ask for Search Console, GA4 and a collaborator invite to your store so we can audit themes, apps and URLs before quoting.

Questions we get asked

Is Shopify bad for SEO?

No. It has a solid technical base and a few known quirks, mostly duplicate product URLs, fixed URL prefixes and app bloat. All can be managed.

Can I edit robots.txt on Shopify?

Yes. Shopify allows customizing robots.txt through the robots.txt.liquid template.

Do you work with Shopify Plus?

The SEO scope is the same. Plus adds checkout and multi-store features that we review during the audit.

Do Shopify apps hurt SEO?

Some do, mainly by adding scripts that slow pages. We audit what each app loads and remove what is not earning its cost.

Should I change my product handles?

Rarely. If you do, add redirects from the old URLs and update internal links.

How do you report Shopify SEO results?

Organic purchase revenue, purchasers and first-time purchasers in GA4, plus non-branded clicks in Search Console, with stated comparison periods.

Can you help with Shopify Google Ads too?

Yes. Ads are a core service, reported separately from SEO.

What does it cost?

We scope pricing to your site and goals, so get in touch for a quote.

Running a Shopify store?

Send us the store URL. Duplicate product URLs, collection pages and app weight are where we look first.
